I had issues throughout the time my child was at butterfly but my final issues led to the removal of my daughter from the nursery. Over the course of six weeks starting from September, she began coming home really sad and she would cry often. When asked why she was sad or upset she would say that child A (the boy she knows from outside of nursery) wasn't nice to her. The sort of things that she told me he had said were "go away" or "I'm not your friend" or "you're not allowed to play with my friends." I felt upset for my daughter but I do know that some children do say these things. I hoped it was a phase that child A would grow out of although I mentioned it to various staff at drop offs and asked that they encourage my daughter to play with other children but they didnt seem to intervene and the problems continued. On one ocassion my daughter came home and told me that child A's friend had punched her in the stomach. I asked if he was told off and she said no. I didn't bother to say anything to the staff on this occasion as they clearly hadn't seen the incident take place and I do understand that staff can't have eyes everywhere at all times, however, a week or so later, after collecting My child, I noticed a scratch under her eye and I asked her what had happened. She told me that child A wanted the toy that she had been playing with and so he scratched her then pushed her to the floor which she then demonstrated. She said he then went on to push her back down when she tried to get up. I called the nursery to discuss the issue and was informed that there was no record of any such incident having taken place and that if it had of taken place, staff would have noticed as children are apparently monitored at all times. I asked if they were aware of any issues between my child and child A to which they replied that there weren't! How on earth is all this being missed? Why aren't staff aware of the ongoing issues? I can't understand how so many issues/incidents have gone unnoticed. Perhaps these issues are so regular that they are of little importance or perhaps it is because my child rarely cries even when hurt as she hates to draw attention to herself and she doesn't tell tales? Like any other child her age (four) She has on occasion told lies, specifically to avoid getting into trouble! However, when asked to have a think about whether or not what she has said is true, she always admits the truth. She's not a natural liar and she certainly doesn't make things up yet the nursery have stated that she has lied and that the incidents did not take place! To have the nursery deny what my daughter is saying as well as being completely oblivious to there even being an issue, has left me no other choice than to remove her. I'm gutted for my child that this terrible time has been her first experience of education. There are too many children and not enough educated or experienced staff that are familiar with individual children's needs. Butterfly is unfortunately a business In which Rachel Stafford profits greatly. Its a great shame that a care setting don't cater to childrens individual needs such as quieter children or children with language difficulties. Staff seem to be unaware of issues between children and appear oblivious of ongoing issues. Toilets aren't monitored at all times. There are too many training staff and not enough qualified staff. No wonder so many incidents get Missed with such a huge number of trainee staff working 40 hour weeks for around 100!
